Letter from the Editor

The Journal ofInformatics Education and Research (JIER) is a reality. It is the second chapter ofthe Journal ofEducation for MIS and is endorsed by the International Academy for Information Management for the enhancement of research in information systems education. This area of expertise is changing rapidly; keeping the educational experience up-to-date is a constant challenge. Additionally, faculty teaching information systems have to focus on the communication and collaborative skills along with the technical skills. In this issue there are articles addressing these concerns.

The editing and production ofa journal has a steep learning curve. It is fortunate that Tom Case (managing editor) brought his past experience to this endeavor. Without his expertise, you would not be reading this edition of the Journal ofInformatics Education and Research.

The original goal for the Journal ofInformatics Education and Research was publishing two issues in 1999. There is now a substantial backlog of manuscripts under review and that goal should be reached in 2000.

Thanks to the all the reviewers who responded with timely and well thought-out reviews. Their reviews demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of the subjects and their interest in improving information systems education. They contributed to the quality ofthe [mal papers in the Journal of Informatics Education and Research.

Mary J. Granger
