I would like to start off by thanking everyone who submitted a paper for this special issue, as well as the reviewers for this special issue. I especially appreciate all of the help from Mary Granger, editor-inchief of JIER. The idea for the special issue originated when I was developing materials for a Web design course. I went searching for published papers, looking to find out how other faculty had implemented similar Web design courses. I couldn't find any published papers on how to implement a Web design course. A colleague had been telling me a similar story-he had been looking for papers on implementing e-cornmerce courses in the curriculnm, but he was unable to find any. Since our two experiences were similar, I thought that other faculty must be going through the same struggle. I then contacted Mary Granger about the possibility of doing a special issue of JIER on strategies for implementing courses related to Web design and e-commerce. The special issue is the result of our discussions. I hope that you find the papers contained within to be useful and appropriate. And most of all, for those of you developing courses on the "cutting edge," I wish you luck in your endeavors!
