Education Institutions Portal System Utilization: A student Perspective

ABSTRACT

Bulletin boards are increasingly used in educational institutions to enhance students' educational experiences. This research examines a recently introduced campus portal in a Midwestern university that has several communications modules, including email, chat, and bulletin board. Theportal in general and the bulletin board module in particular are examined. Several variables pertaining to students'perceptions ofthe portal and the bulletin board, such as system friendliness andeasinessa/use, are exploredto discover thefactors thatencouragestudentsystem use.Theresultspoint to the importance of system design that takes student perspective into consideration. Research conclusions and recommendations are discussed.

Ayman H. Abuhamdieh is an assistant professor of management information systems and ecommerce in the School ofBusiness at Indiana State University. His research focus areas include Ecommerce strategy and technology; trust in the C2C domain, and E- Communities. Dr. Abuhamdieh earned his MBAs from Jordan University and Rutgers University, and his Doctorate from Rutgers University.
