Towards and Understanding of Graduate Student Information Systems Related Disciplines and Online MIS Degree Programs

ABSTRACT

There is an increasing awareness ofgraduate online courses offered over the Internet. These courses span a variety ofdisciplines and are offered by multiple types ofinstitutions. This research searches for and verifies the existence of online information systems graduate degree programs. An ancillary product of this research is a set of unique characteristics that can be applied to distinguish among programs that are completely online and those with online components. Ofparticular interest are those online programs that lead to degrees in information systems and related disciplines. This paper presents findings resulting from a nationwide survey a/institutions cited in the major college guide literature and identified within commonly used search engines as offering graduate information systems related online degree.programs.

S. E. Kruck is an assistant professor in theCollege of'lt James Madison University. He teaches in the information systems program. Dr. Kruck earned his Virginia Tech and has since published numerous he serves on the editorial board of the Journal ofInformation Systems and is certified in the State of Virginia a CPA.

Harry L. Reif is an assistant professor in the College of It James Madison University. He teaches in the information systems program. Dr. Reif received his Virginia Commonwealth University. A ·former information officer, Dr. Reif currently teaches telecommunications, networking, and systems analysis/design.
