Bringing IT Professionals and Graduate Students Together: A Capstone Course in an IT Program

ABSTRACT

This paper describes how the Computer Science department in a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a School of Business and Economics worked together to develop a new, capstone course for a Master in Science Master in Information Technology (MSMIT) program that they offered jointly. The course brings IT professionals into the classroom to share their experiences and help the students integrate their coursework knowledge with real world situations.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Harold Pardue is a Professor of CIS in School of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of South Alabama. He received his Ph.D. in MIS from the Florida State University in 1996. His current research interests include computing curriculum development and assessment, trust in computer-mediated environments, and Information Systems architecture. His articles have been published in Review of Business Information Systems, Information Systems Education Journal, Communications of ACM, Journal of Engineering Education, Journal of Information Systems Education, Engineering Economist, System Dynamics Review, Journal of Psychological Type, and Journal of Computer Information Systems. He is also a director of the Center for Computing Education Research, a division of the ICCP Education Foundation.

Ruth B. Schwartz Ph.D. (Temple). She is currently Director of the Informatics program at Indiana University South Bend and an Associate Professor of Computer Science.

Bill N. SchwartzPh.D (UCLA), CPA. He is Dean of the Silberman College of Business, Fairleigh Dickinson University. Previously he was Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Indiana University South Bend. He also served on the faculties at Virginia Commonwealth University, Temple University and Arizona State University. He currently is co-editor of Advances in Accounting Education.
