Letter from the Editor

This special issue of JIER focuses on the assessment of Information Systems students, courses, and programs in higher education.

Two articles in this issue look at course-level assessment and propose using that to move into program level assessment activities. One article takes this one-step further and evaluates historical data to determine the best choice of a course or courses to predict success across the Information Systems curriculum. The other two articles focus on assessment from the program level, one looking at a specific example where multiple institutions form a “community of practice” and another analyzing the assessment practices of those institutions that have successfully achieved ABET IS Accreditation.

These five articles utilize the entire the range of applied research methods in order to better define the issues surrounding assessment within the Information Systems discipline. Their valuable contributions will help spark the interest of IS faculty to take a fresh look at different ways to assess their own programs, courses, and students.

Thanks goes first to the JIER General Editor, Mary Granger, for encouraging the creation of this Special Issue on Information Systems Assessment. This issue would not have been possible without the additional help and support of the Special Issue Co-Editor, Brooks Applegate, and the invaluable efforts of the Reviewers.
